Garry Kasparov versus Anatoly Karpov 1990

Karpov (rated 2730) qualified again in the Candidates Matches beating Johann Hjartason 3.5 : 1.5, Artur Yusupov 4.5 : 3.5 and Jan Timman 6.5 : 2.5 and earned the right to challenge Kasparov (rated 2800) for the world chess title.

The first 12 games were played in New York, in-between score 6:6, then they continued in Lyon/France.

Kasparov won the match being just one point ahead with the final score of 12.5 to 11.5 (4 wins, 3 losses) and remained world chess champion.
