The Women’s World Chess Championship 2012 was this time a knockout tournament, not the usual match, to decide the women’s world champion 2012. The title was won by Anna Ushenina of Ukraine. The defending champion Hou Yifan went out in the second round of the 64-player knockout tournament that took place in Khanty Mansiysk, Russia from 10 November to 1 December 2012.
