Hikaru Nakamura was born 9. December 1987 in Hirakata, Japan and is an US-American Chess Grandmaster of japanese origin. Just aged 2 he moved with his parents to the United States and began playing chess at the age of seven. He and his brother were trained by his stepfather Sunil Weeramantry who was a chess trainer.
He played his first tournament in February 1995. At the age of 10 years and 4 months Nakamura became National Champion and the youngest Chessmaster of the USA ever. In 2003, just 15 years old, he became the youngest US-american grandmaster in history before Bobby Fischer.
In December 2004 he won the national championship of the USA in San Diego. Soon after he won a match against Sergej Karjakin scoring 4,5/1,5. In October 2007 he won the Casino de Barcelona-Tournament with 7/9 points.
In January 2008 he won the Gibtelecom Chess Festival in Gibraltar and in November the rapid chess tournament in Cap d’Agde.
Nakamura has an aggressive playing style and does not like to draw early. Sometimes he uses dubious opening systems.(Parhams Attack) His Elo-Rating is 2704 (in December 2008). He is a Super Chess Grandmaster ranked at number 30 worldwide and as number 2 in the USA.
